Why? Why would I want to run a marathon?
But this thought kept nagging me: Why? Why would I want to run a marathon. Didn't I read somewhere the human body isn't really made for distances that long?
Taking back control
But I love the psychology that the Non-Runners Marathon Trainer is peppered with: about taking control of your life. As a mom of five children it's sometimes hard to feel in control. You never know when one of them is going to fall down and hit his head or something. Or where the next 'Mommyyyy!!!' is going to come from. I would love to be more in control of my life.
I hate crowds
But then there's this other worry: I hate crowds. They make me feel claustrophobic. Then again, a mean little voice inside of me keeps whispering: you won't be in a crowd very long, what with your speed!
So I was just wondering: what motivates you to participate in a marathon? And does it have to be an official marathon? Can't you just run a marathon in silence, all on your own?
Is this a philosophical issue? If you run a marathon and no one is around to see you do it, did you do it?'

I have so much respect for everyone running a marathon of any sort. I couldn't do it myself though :) #justanotherlinky
I considered running one before I fell pregnant. But I am definitely going to be doing some in 2017 when I get back out again :)
The thing that makes me want to do it, is so that i can say I've done it :) plus I always feel great after running
Good Luck :)

When I read your post title I just had to click on it as I am having that dilemma now. I only started running in my late thirties, I used to keep fit other ways, but running was something I though I could never do. A few years a go I did plod the Athens marathon, which wasn't a pleasant experience due to the weather (sleet and high winds after a summer of training) and a bladder infection, that I chose to try and ignore (not recommended). Lets just say I completed it and swore never again.
A couple of weeks a go my Husband had the 'brilliant' idea of running/ plodding it again (he's one of those people who can just run). The marathon is mid November... I think facing my fears would be a good thing... But can I be ready in time even just to complete it?
So to answer your question; my motivation comes from wanting to complete a marathon and feel good. It's not about time for me (I'm realistic), but I know that everything was against me last time and I want to feel good.
I'm not sure I could run one 'on my own', the atmosphere and plodding a long with other people is definitely part of doing the a marathon. The good thing is we can literally go to Athens and register the day before, so I have time to see how things go....And if you are considering doing one but are put off by crowds(I am one of the least people people you'll ever meet, where there's a crowd, I'm not). It's only the beginning that is a little crowded once you start plodding it thins out.

Back in the day I would have loved to do this. My knees have convinced me that running is no longer an activity for me. Thank you for sharing with us this week at Celebrate Your Story, have a great weekend!
I never ran a marathon either. I just don't get what all the fuss is about.
I know just what you mean Lisa. I always get my runner's high after my run : )
That sucks, that your knees won't let you run Sandra.
