And that still surprises me. Because I never liked sports. In high school I was always chosen last in gym class, because I wasn't any good.
But running somehow struck a chord. It offered me peace of mind, when everything around me was chaotic.
And it's kept me sane during 21 years of motherhood. Which is why I would like to share all the reasons why moms should run!
10 reasons why moms should run
- You teach by example. By running you're showing your children a way to stay healthy and get rid of stress. This is especially good since more and more children struggle with their weight.
- Running means time for you.
- You'll gain in self confidence.
- You'll be healthier.
- You get peace of mind.
- You get rid of superfluous adrenaline and stress. So the next time someone spills their drink you won't go bananas.
- You'll sleep better.
- Your mind wil work better, which always comes in handy when dealing with children who are very creative in finding excuses not to do things. Like cleaning up after themselves.
- You're not only a mom, wife, employee, you're also a Runner!
- Yes, you cán eat that mars bar.
What does running mean to you?

Running & the gym is definitely 'me' time, it's my de-stress. You don't have to think about anything other than what you are doing right at that second #JustAnotherLinky
I really need to get back to running.
It was so much easier when the twins napped and the big girls were in school. Summer kills my running truly. A few more weeks! I definately notice a difference. From my butt to my mood.
Running means something I can not do to save my life... I've never been good at it. I get out of breath really quick. I would love to be able to run but instead I enjoy walking at a really fast pace.

I used to run, for all those reasons, but since my last child I just don't have the energy or motivation. One day I'll get back to it! #justanotherlinky

I WISH I could run again. I miss it a heck of a lot, but since my car accident in 2006 I can no longer do it. All of the reasons you mentioned are great reasons for running. I also found that it was a great way to feel the wind move throughout my body that didn't cost anything. It gave me the feeling of being powerful too.
Thank you for sharing this with us on the #HomeMattersParty. We hope to see you again when we open our doors on Friday at 12AM EST.
What helps me, is to go running early in the morning Kristin.
I totally understand. However don't forget: running may actually fÃll you with new energy!
I'm so sorry you can't run again because of your car accident. Maybe you could take up walking?
If you get out of breath you're running too fast. Running should nót make you gasp for some air : )
I loved running, but cardio hates me. Due to heath issues I can't run like I used to. I am slowly building up to my old self. Thanks for this tip. Found you #HomeMattersParty
Ha ha ha ha, No!
Substitute almost any other form of exercise for running and I am there with you. I have never enjoyed it and now it is now good for my body. I am in the non-impact stage of life now. But your points are absolutely valid and don't only apply to running.

That sucks J. I hope you'll get back to your old running self.
Thanks Audrey! You are absolutely right : )
Absolutely! I never liked long distance running when I was younger but since I had my kids it is a lifeline. Perfect way to get fit, lose weight, de-stress and have some me time on my own schedule. I'm still working back to longer runs after having my 2nd child. Today was a milestone though because I ran for 20 minutes without stopping for the first time in ages. Thanks for the inspiring post! #twinklytuesday
Yes, yes, yes! Running has done wonders for me as a mom! I love the healthy competition, stress relief and positive body image it gives me! Thank you for the inspiration on #mommymoments :)
I love this post and I agree with you completely. Running has been so good for me as well. It helps me deal with stress, sleep better at night, feel better about myself and I enjoy my morning runs. Like you I wasn't in sports in high-school. But I started running shortly after my fifth and youngest child was born, mostly to get back in shape because I knew I wasn't going to have any more children. Running has been much more than that for me.
Thanks for linking up for Wordless Wednesday.
I love your story Cascia. It sounds so similar to mine!
Yes, running can do wonders for your body image and give some much needed stress relief. As for competition, that one I can't relate to I'm afraid. I only compete against my inner lazybone : )
Good for you! Well done!
I really want to start running! I know it will help me with many things but having the time to do it is my problem at the moment.
