When mindful running turns against you
Mindful running is hot.
It means being aware of every step you take. Every bréath you take. I think this sounds very enlightened. So I wish I could tell you I am a mindful runner. But the sad truth is I am not.
In fact the more my mind is distracted from what I'm doing, the better I run. Which is why I listen to country and western songs during my runs. They take my mind off of the running. When I'm running I think of my mind as this big, bad agressive dog. So I throw it a bone (music) to keep it o
cupied, while I'm doing my thing.
Because if my head is in it, every step become a struggle.
Unfortunately my playlist has become a bit old. I've heard all the songs so many times, they're not enough to keep my mind occupied. Which is why I accidentally ran very mindful last week. I was aware of every step I took. And believe me: that's not a good thing.
Because all I could think was:
'This is terrible! I wanna stop. Can I stop?'
It took all my willpower to keep running.
So when I got home, first thing I did was create a new playlist. So now my mind is happy again. Chewing on country and western songs while my body is on the move.
So mindless running works best for me.
What works best for you?

I run with podcasts and audiobooks. Makes the time fly!!
I totally agree with you...mindful running has never worked for me. Especially while getting back into running again, I need a distraction, so music and audio books are my running mates. Stopping by from SITS Sharefest.
I start out running with music, but within a few minutes, my brain tunes out the music and I run with my thoughts.... I solve a lot of problems and get a lot of mental clarity on each run www.momontherunsanity.com
Podcasts are great too, I agree! You can run and you can learn something.
I like that Paria. Running can be a great tool to clear your mind.
I like Lakita would be needing a diversion, so music would be my choice.
Thanks for sharing on Oh My Heartsie Girls WW this week.
Have a great week, Karren
