Running a red light

A Dutch runner, Denis Doeland, had to spend the night in jail after running a red light. And for not carrying any id on him.

Luckily he kept his sense of humor and made a cellfie! And he changed his profile photo to this:

I can sympathize with Denis Doeland.

You really don't want to stop running while you're running.

What I usually do, is run in place.

How do you cope with red lights as a runner? Do you sometimes run through a red lightt

Wow a night in jail is intense! I've seen jaywalking tickets here before but never actual jail!

I live in the country so unless I'm going on a long run towards town there aren't any red lights. I usually run out of town to avoid them entirely. However, if I needed to I would just run in place. It does seem pretty harsh for a runner. In the US pedestrians have the right of way so I'm not sure how that would be handled.

Pedestrians do not automatically have the right of way in the US. Safety measures are put in place for a reason. Don't get hit and killed by a car because you can't stop for a stop sign or red light.

Pedestrians don't have the right of way in the Netherlands either. Which is why this runner got arrested.

I would run in place too. I totally get that he didn't want to stop running, but there are different ways of doing this.

I live in the country too, and I'm very grateful for the lack of red lights!
