Merrell running shoes: Mix Master Move Glide

I got to try out a pair of Merrell running shoes. Their Mix Master Move Glide running shoes, to be precise.

After I took them out of the box, my first impulse was: google these Merrell running shoes and read all about them. I love reading promises of running like the wind, feeling light as a feather etc. I love reading the hype. Even though I know it's a hype. It's a self fullfilling prophecy. After reading that a pair of running shoes will make me run faster, I automatically start to feel faster.

But in the interest of trying the Merrell running shoes with an open mind, and without any preconceived notions, I forbade myself to google them. Instead I just put them on.

Merrell running shoes: first impressions

The pair of Merrell running shoes I got were black with pink. I was a bit disappointed with the colours. I would have liked a pair of blue or greens ones better. But oh well. You can't look a gift horse in the mouth, and you can't go around complaining about a pair of free running shoes. Even if you have to write a review about them in return.

Merrell running shoes put to the test: the proof is in the run

I've taken the Merrell running shoes for two runs. One 3 miler, and a 5 miler. And I like the way they move. The biggest difference with my Saucony running shoes was that my feet made much more contact with the ground. Also the shoes felt very light, which made running feel light too. I measured the thickness of the soles, and compared them with my Saucony running shoes. My Saucony's shoes measure 4 cm, and the Merrell running shoes only 2,5 cm.

During my second run with the Merrell running shoes I pulled a muscle in my right foot. So I'm kind of limping through the house. But I don't think it's the Merrell running shoes' fault. It just shows that they challenge different feet muscles than I'm used to.

Sizing of Merrel running shoes

What has struck me most about the Merrell running shoes is their sizing. In my daily life I wear a size 7,5. But when it comes to running shoes I'm condemned to a whopping size 9. However the Merrell running shoes allowed me to wear my normal size!

Well so far my objective report of the Merrell running shoes. Now, let's go check out the hype!

Merrell about their Mix Master Move Glide running shoes

As I expected the Merrell running shoes, model Mix Master Move Glide, are minimalistic shoes. This is what it says on the website:

'A minimalist running shoe designed with the road in mind, our Mix Master Road Glide creates a softer ride for your stride. 8mm of heel cushioning to 4mm under the ball of the foot creates a cushioned, 4mm platform over a thinner Float™ midsole that gives you greater ground feel and control with less impact. The low profile vegan friendly, breathable mesh upper keeps your feet feeling light and dry.'

Merrell running shoes: what are they made off?

  • Textile and synthetic leather upper

  • Molded eyelets for secure lacing

  • Protective toe cap

  • Breathable mesh lining

  • M-Select FRESH naturally prevents odor before it starts for fresh smelling feet

  • EVA removable footbed

  • Reflective details for increased visibility in low light

Merrell running shoes: a good buy

The Merrel Mix Master Move Glide running shoes seem to be a good buy at $95. Depending on your running gait, it's a great running shoe to have in your closet. But for runners like me, who usually wear antipronation shoes, it's important to wear them in moderation.
